On stocked rainbows and where regulations allow, yes. On wild brown trout, we strongly encourage catch-and-release to preserve the fishery. Some sections of the river are catch-and-release-only by law; your guide will brief you on the rules for the section we’re fishing.
We match the setup to the water and the angler. But mostly we fish the brands we love and carry in our stores. We use Lamson, TFO, ECHO to name. a few.
Drift-boat trips cover more water and are less physically demanding — you fish in a comfortable boat while the guide rows. Wade trips cover less ground but offer heavier, more focused instruction because the guide can watch every cast from up close. Neither is better; they’re different tools. Most first-timers start with drift; most anglers who want to improve their skill come back for wade.

Weekends in spring (March–May) and fall (September–December) fill 4–6 weeks out. Weekdays are often available with 1–2 weeks’ notice. Last-minute bookings do happen if you call and we have a cancellation.
More than 14 days out: full refund. Within 14 days: deposit is non-refundable but can be transferred to a future date. Within 72 hours: full trip amount owed — unless we cancel for weather or safety, in which case we reschedule or refund in full.
We meet at the boat ramp or access point appropriate for the day’s trip and flow. You’ll get exact directions from your guide before your trip.
Our typical launch points are 10 minutes from downtown Blue Ridge or from downtown Cleveland. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for gear setup.
A state issued fishing license, Polarized sunglasses (non-negotiable — they protect your eyes from flies and let you see fish), a brimmed hat, sunscreen, and layered clothing appropriate for the day’s weather. That’s it — we handle rods, reels, flies, waders, boots, and tackle.
Yes. You’ll need a Tennessee or Georgia fishing license with a trout stamp depending on which water we’re fishing. They’re inexpensive and take about 3 minutes to buy online from Georgia DNR @ www.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com or for Tennessee through TWRA @ www.gooutdoorstennessee.com. We’ll tell you exactly which one to get when we confirm your trip.
Yes — about half our clients each season are brand-new to fly fishing. Drift-boat trips and half-day wade trips are our most beginner-friendly formats. The guide handles the technical stuff; you focus on catching fish and improving your fishing acumen.
Absolutely. We recommend ages 10 and up for a standard trip; younger kids work better in a shorter half-day format. Kids’ trips are one of our favorite kinds of days. We’re patient, we’re safe, and we’ll absolutely put a fish in their hands.
Our drift boats are on rivers — no ocean swells, no rocking — so seasickness is very rarely a problem. If you’re sensitive to motion, a half-day wade trip is always an option.
Rain is fine — some of our best fishing days are rainy. We will reschedule or refund for lightning, dangerously high water, or unsafe cold. We make the call no later than the morning of the trip.

Yes — guide fishing is a service industry and guides work on tips. Customary is 20-25% of the trip cost if you had a good day, more if you had a great day and caught a great fish, less if things didn’t click. Always at your discretion.
